Fashion Forecasting
The Ask
Craft a research-based, short-term trend forecast using abstracting and analytical skills for the F/W 24 season.
Ideation
With a team of four other dedicated colleagues, we began to examine the current state of the industry in relation to the zeitgeist. With a generous amount of research concerning cultural critiques, the latest runways shows, streetwear, and social media, we found bold and dynamic patterns centered around self-expression. We were drawn to the idea of bad taste- a rebirth of the tacky and maximalist approach to fashion that seems to take on new heights as dopamine dressing and non-conforming styles within Gen-Z continues to evolve.
We began crafting our theme under our title: The Art of Bad Taste: Self Expression in the Age of Nonconformity. We looked toward our core inspirations- ideas of rebellion, evolution, personal identity, and radical self-expression. We knew that this theme would be an example of how authenticity manifests visually.
The Process
Our team spent countless hours pouring over this forecast. We collaborated closely on every moodboard, color story, textile report, and key item. With our shared pinterest boards, constant team meetings, and endless sharing back and forth of inspirations and ideas, it is safe to say that we were obsessed with Bad Taste.
A video I created that served as a visual reference and moodboard for the forecast.
The Product
We presented our forecast to classmates, fashion faculty members, and several forecasting professionals from Fashion Snoops. After an exceptional amount of time and dedication, our project was selected as the Fall 2022 Critic’s Choice. Our presentation was showcased for the department, donors, and alumni at the VCUarts 2023 Fashion Show.
